Structural engineering and fabrication advice for an ultra-thin (3mm) and ultra-light (250kg) residential staircase in waxed mild steel. The staircase gains its stiffness through geometry to respond to the transport and installation logistic limitations. The access to the site is such that materials can only be carried manually. Due to the lightweight nature of the staircase complex dynamic analysis had to be carried out to verify its footfall feasibility. The bolted fixings are fully bespoke bronze socket cap bolts made to the correct strength and size locally.
